Chimurenga musician Thomas ‘Mukanya’ Mapfumo is expected back next month to perform in several cities and towns. Mukanya’s latest visit, the Peace Tour, will take him to Bulawayo, Beitbridge, Gweru, Mutare, Masvingo, Kariba and Harare. The 73-year old singer has been based in the United States in self-imposed exile since the turn of the millennium. Chimurenga Music Company spokesperson, Blessing Vava said the tour is meant to facilitate the creation of peace and a stable political environment in Zimbabwe. He said
For bread and butter to be on your table, it comes through a stable political environment. Hence Mukanya is saying the acrimony, the polarisation, the insults and attacks should stop… We want a peaceful Zimbabwe where we live in peace and harmony… Our country is polarised politically, we are too divided, especially after the elections and this is a call from Mukanya for us to put our differences aside and work together as a people.
