Govt Orders Bakers Not To Increase Bread Price

Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu confirmed bakers had informed him of their intent to increase bread price to $2,20 with effect from today (Saturday) but he told them to hold on until they meet on Monday.

Said Ndlovu:

The bakeries called me during the day today (yesterday) to advise me of the development. l told them to hold on until we meet on Monday, that is my position. I want to believe they will adhere to the position l communicated to them. I do not know how they are going to proceed.

The bakers said the increase in bread price was necessitated by constant rise in input costs.
