Chamisa Refutes Reports That He Wants To Be Prime Minister

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has dismissed reports which were carried by state media that he wants President Emmerson Mnangagwa to appoint him Prime Minister. State media had alleged that Chamisa wants to be Prime Minister and not “Office of the Leader of the Opposition”. President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently told Bloomberg television that he plans to adopt the Commonwealth parliamentary democracy system in which the leader of the opposition is formally recognised and gets a salary from the government. Chamisa has rejected the offer, however.

Chamisa’s spokesperson, Nkululeko Sibanda told 263Chat,

No, the President is not interested in positions…What is certainly true is that the President is concerned about the plight of the 95 per cent unemployed Zimbabweans not in anything else and he has developed a five-point plan to deal with that…Firstly the President is of the view that the economic situation and unemployment will improve if we consider a national dialogue and ultimately be sure that we will never ever have another election whose outcome is disputed because if we do not put a mechanism to safeguard the election it is the economy that pays the price.
