Names Of Victims Of Intercape Crash Near Polokwane Released, Bodies Repatriated

The South African authorities have repatriated the bodies of 9 people who perished when an Intercape Bus overturned near Polokwane last week. The bus which was travelling from Harare to Johannesburg injured more than 50 people when it overturned. The bodies were accompanied by one of the Intercape directors, Adriaan Maloney. The names of the victims are as follows:

  • Anenyasha Choga (18 Months)
  • Asichile Lewawanya (38) (Anenyasha’s mother)
  • Memory Masara (22)
  • Tafadzwa Nyatsine (22)
  • Nokuthula Tiny Maarah (22)
  • Tanaka Nhundu (22)
  • Peter Sithole (48)
  • Joyce Chapingidza (58)
  • Alois Tapiwa Chani (18)

Speaking on the accident, Maloney denied allegations that the driver had been sleeping. Said Maloney,

It is human error. Our buses record the behaviour of the driver and he was wide awake…The South Africa Road Accident Fund provided coffins for the deceased, bought the graves while Intercape is paying all expenses for the relatives.
