The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that at least 45 people have died in the last three weeks from a “multi-drug resistant” strain of cholera in Zimbabwe. The outbreak has mainly affected Glen View and Budiriro suburbs in Harare with all the death cases recorded in Harare except for two. One in Masvingo and one in Makoni. In a report WHO and the Ministry of Health and Child Care said,
A cumulative total of 6,428 suspected cases, 45 deaths, and 96 confirmed cases have been reported.
The city of Harare is expected to start vaccinating people against the disease soon and has targeted at least 450 000 people who are at high risk.
