Mudenda Apologises To Chief Justice Malaba, Chigumba, Condemns Their Harassment

Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda has apologised To Chief Justice Luke Malaba and Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Chairperson Priscilla Chigumba who were heckled and booed by opposition legislators on Tuesday.

Malaba was heckled when he came to preside over the swearing in of the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Tsitsi Gezi. Chigumba, who was in attendance in the National Assembly, suffered the same fate until she was whisked out of Parliament by deputy Clerk of Parliament, Hellen Dingani.

The ceremony had to be delayed for close to 20 minutes as the opposition supporters sang and danced chanting. In his statement Mudenda also warned legislators against harassing members of the judiciary. Below is Mudenda’s full statement:
