Veritas Is Incorrect, Misleading And Unbalanced, Mnangagwa’s Appointment Of Commission Of Inquiry Legal - Justice Perm Sec
Speaking to The Herald, Secretary for Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Mrs Virginia Mabiza said the appointment of a commission of inquiry by President Mnangagwa is legal.
Mabiza denied claims by Veritas that Mnangagwa’s actions were unlawful. Said Mabhiza:
It is most unfortunate that a misinterpretation of the law would constitute such a misleading headline. With all due respect, the interpretation of Section 110 (2) (d) of the Constitution by Veritas is incorrect, misleading and unbalanced. The law does not require the President to consult Cabinet in making appointments, which the Constitution or legislation requires the President to make. It is therefore incorrect to say that the provisions do not make it mandatory for the President to appoint a commission. That could never have been contemplated by the Legislature. The President can make the appointments in terms of that statute. Veritas is, however, entitled to its opinion.
