Mnangagwa Must Serve Only 5 Years, Leadership Should Not Be Limited To Former Freedom Fighters - Mliswa

Independent legislator for Norton, Temba Mliswa has called on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to serve only five years, if he is confirmed as the winner of the presidential election by the Constitutional Court. Mliswa also said that Mnangagwa should pass on the baton to another generation and not his own. Speaking to NewsDay, Mliswa said,

…ED (Mnangagwa) must pass on to another generation the baton, not his generation because former President Robert Mugabe took his time and was removed for failing to pass on the baton. Zimbabweans have supported war veterans since 1980 and we respect their role, but now that baton must be passed on to a generation of people who did not necessarily go to war, and such debate must be allowed to be discussed freely by Mnangagwa because there has got to be a generation of leaders that is not theirs.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Resettlement Perrance Shiri were part of the group of service chiefs who in 2002 declared that they would never salute anyone without liberation war credentials.
