Eliot Lance Engel a United States congressman and Ranking Member in the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Foreign Affairs, has spoken out against the government’s pursuit of opposition leader Tendai Biti saying it’s not a crime to be in the opposition. Writing on Twitter, Engel said,

Political opposition is not a crime. The government of Zimbabwe’s pursuit of Tendai Biti, a senior member of the opposition MDC Alliance, is outrageous and casts more doubt on the government’s claims that it’s turned a page on its past use of violence and intimidation.
