Biti Says No Longer Wanted By The Police, Charamba Insists CID Wants To Interview Him

MDC Alliance principal and former minister of finance Tendai Biti has said that he has no idea why National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba mentioned his name on national television yesterday. Following Wednesday’s protests by opposition supporters which turned violent, Charamba called Biti and MDC Youth leader Happymore Chidziva to hand themselves in so that they could assist the police with their investigations.

However, at a press conference today at his law offices, Biti said that his lawyers had gone to the police where they were informed that no one had summoned Biti to the station. Biti professed ignorance about why the police would want to talk to him as he had committed no crime.

Said Biti,

When my lawyers went to the police in the morning to find out what were the charges they were told to leave their contact details and they said they will contact us if they need anything.

At a press conference, Charity Charamba insisted that the CID Law and Order still needed to interview Biti because the police had not talked to him at all.
