MDC Alliance Vungu constituency parliamentary candidate Nimrod Lunga was barred from voting after his name was not found on voters’ roll. He however appeared on ballot paper.
Speaking to journalist Nqobile Bhebhe, Lunga said he passed via nomination court, checked via his phone, also went to check whether he was registered physically and all was well. He said he also appears on a disc of the voters roll but he is not in the voters’ roll at the polling station. Lunga’s name appears under Bulawayo Polytechinc, Ward 1, Bulawayo Central. Lunga registered in Vungu and his nomination to stand there was accepted, his name however ended up on the Bulawayo Central roll.
MDC Alliance principal and former minister of finance Tendai Biti was also turned away from Gletwin Polling Station after his name was not found in the voters’ roll. Biti who is running for the National Assembly Seat for Harare East was thinking of taking the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to court over the mistake, as it’s not possible for an aspiring candidate to pass the nomination court process unless they are a registered voter.
