Don’t Believe Mnangagwa’s Promises: The Economist Columnist

An article in the internationally recognised publication, The Economist urges people not to believe President Mnangagwa’s promises. The article argues Mnangagwa has kept the same incompetent people that formed former President Robert Mugabe’s government.

The article argues against reports that the Western world and financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is behind Mnangagwa. The writer argues that Mnangagwa has failed to apologise for past horrors and that even if Mnangagwa wants to reform, Zanu-PF is beyond redemption. Part of the article reads:

It is a beguiling argument, but it is false. Mr Mnangagwa’s government, shorn of Mr Mugabe and his wife’s chief acolytes, is still the same one that ruined a bountiful country, set records for hyperinflation, routinely tortured and murdered its critics, and prompted several million citizens to emigrate. During his eight months in office, Mr Mnangagwa has kept on many of the same band of incompetent crooks. He has promoted brutal, greedy generals. Virtually all his ministers and several judges are the beneficiaries of stolen wealth and land. He has failed to apologise for past horrors. Even if he wanted to turn over a new leaf, his party is irredeemable.

  1. Those are Jonathan Moyo’s words—-he has called in a favour from someone at the Economist to get that article printed!

  2. Mnangagwa is so far the best leader of Zimbabwe. We are going to vote for him in millions on monday. Observors should prepare for shocking numbers of Mnangagwa’s votes from the karangaland.

  3. Quiet amazing that Farai Mbiracial is deliberately demarketing ED by attaching a tribal centimeters in a diverse society. Are we to identify our leaders as zezuru, Karanga, Manyika etc? That’s the reason why Zanupf should be voted out coz they have promoted such kind of divisions. As we speak right now due to failure to accept diversity and promoting divisions we are having separIst movements rising in the western regions of our country. We need a unifier to lead the people that why Chamisa should lead

  4. How can you believe Mnangagwa`s promises if you politically biased towards your own party, definitely you will try everything to discredit ED but this will not stop the visionary leader ED from being crowned the president. ED has my vote.
