Perpetrators Of Political Violence Should Be Denied Bail, Given Maximum Sentences: ZRP
The police commander for the 2018 harmonised elections committee, Senior Assistant Commissioner Erasmus Makodza has revealed that the police is lobbying the courts to deny bail to anyone accused of perpetrating political violence. He also said that the police will lobby for the maximum sentence, which is 10 years. Speaking to the Sunday Mail, Makodza said,
As ZRP, we will not let anyone involved in political violence go scot-free. We will lobby the courts to ensure that no bail is given to perpetrators of political violence. We will also lobby the prosecutors’ office to clamour for maximum sentences for those involved in political violence.
We want to make sure that all pending cases of political violence are dealt with and finalised before the harmonised elections and we are working with the courts in that regard. We want to make sure that we go to the elections without any pending cases.
