Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni, as well as the City of Harare (COH), have come in for some criticism after the city held a ceremony for the Mayor to officially open new elevators on Tuesday. The elevators are located at the Parkade Building in Harare.
The plaque on the elevator reads:
The Parkades Elevators were officially opened by his worship the Mayor of Harare, Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni on the 22nd of May 2018.
Here is how some people reacted:
But makadireiko kudaro nhai Mayor @BenManyenyeni?
To think that plaque, decor and probably catering too had to be paid for for you to "officially open" elevators?
Off all things that need to be addressed in this "sunshine" city. Ndasvoda pic.twitter.com/RCzPSmXuFy

Have we become this petty @BGManyenyeni to a point where we have to “officially open” an elevator. Lift here akomana 🤣🤣🤣
The irony is elevators open themselves automatically 🤪 pic.twitter.com/bxQqYCsPFh
