David Coltart Condemns Thokozani Khupe Verbal Abuse

Former minister David Coltart has spoken out against the verbal abuse which was directed at the leader of the breakaway MDC-T party, Thokozani Khupe. Khupe suffered the abuse from MDC-T supporters as she attended the Supreme Court after Nelson Chamisa ‘s party filed an appeal over the use of the MDC-T names and symbols. Said Coltart on his Facebook page,

I have not seen the video of the incident but have read what my good friend and trusted colleague Siphosami Malunga has written about the verbal abuse of Thoko Khupe outside court yesterday. The conduct of these men is unacceptable and stands against everything I believe should mark a Democratic Party. Truly this is something we would expect of Zanu PF, not the MDC.

Of course, I do not know who these men are and realize they may be agent provocateurs but that does not absolve the MDC Alliance from acting against them. If they are found to be members of any of the constituent parts of the MDC Alliance they should be investigated and after due disciplinary process expelled. Anything less will seriously undermine the moral integrity of the Alliance.

Anyone who knows me well knows just how much I question Ms Khupe’s agenda but if we do not act all this will do is advance her, to our own detriment.
