MDC-T Wants Parties To Sign A Peace Pledge Ahead Of 2018 Elections

MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora has said that his party wants parties contesting in the upcoming 2018 harmonised elections to sign a “peace pledge.” The pledge will be signed before respected African personalities and seeks to remove the toxic political atmosphere in the country. Speaking to NewsDay, Mwonzora said,

We also proposed that parties should join hands in popularizing the political code of conduct that is now part of our electoral law. There is also a proposal for parties to sign a peace pledge and to give gravitas to this, it was agreed that we must invite eminent African personalities to the signing ceremony. We proposed Anan, former Tanzanian leader Benjamin Mkapa and former Nigerian military strongman Abdulsalami Abubakar.
