Govt Pledges To Pay 10 Million School Fees Debt For War Veterans' Children

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said the executive has directed Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa to pay outstanding fees for war veterans’ children. He said this while addressing delegates that attended the meeting between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and war veterans.

Chiwenga who is also War Veterans Minister, said Government will avail funds to clear the school fees debt that stands at $10 571 713 dating back to 2016. He however said Government has paid most of the school fees for all terms in 2017 and the first term of 2018. Said Chiwenga:

In this regard, the Ministry is currently working closely with Treasury to ensure that all the arrears are paid in the shortest time that resources permit. However, I am pleased to announce that most of the school fees for all terms in 2017, and for the first term of 2018, have been settled and payment for the second term are in progress. Efforts are being made to clear the outstanding funeral bills amounting to $1,575 million and medical bills to the tune of $375 466 through Treasury.
