Mighty Warriors Vow Not To Leave Zifa Village Until They Get Full Allowances, Received $5 After Namibia

The women’s national soccer team, the Mighty Warriors who are engaged in a sit-in protest at Zifa Village have vowed not to leave until they get their full dues. The Mighty Warriors are upset that after defeating Namibia over the weekend they received only $5 per player as transport allowances with promises that they will receive payment at a future date. Those based outside Harare received $20. The players are owed at least $800 each.

A senior player who spoke to NewsDay said,

This is not the first time that we have been given such a raw deal by Zifa. We have been in this situation before where they promise to give us our monies later, but we always end up not getting it. Zifa owes us a lot of money from our previous involvement in the national duty. It’s so bad that most of not all the players have forgotten the actual amount of money that we are owed from the previous assignments.
