Mnangagwa Speaks On Zim-US Relations

Addressing journalists after meeting United States of America Senators Christopher Coons and Jeff Flake, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said there is no hostility between Zimbabwe and the United States.

Mnangagwa said the hostile relations are a creation of the media. Coons and Flake want the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act of 2001 to be amended and tougher conditions set out for sanctions to be lifted. Said Mnangagwa:

It is important to accept constructive criticism so that where you feel you were doing things in a matter that you felt was correct, if there is constructive criticism you can always benefit from such engagements. So I would want to say that the feeling that America is hostile [to Zimbabwe] is a result of the media. Where there is dialogue you can always find a way of resolving challenges and this is one opportunity that has come around for us to look at issues that are challenging so that together we can find a way to resolve these issues and move forward and that is the spirit I would want our people to accept.
