We Will Not Target The Chinese, Everyone Is To Blame For Externalization: Minister

Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Terrence Mukupe has said that the government will not be taking any action against Chinese nationals and companies. The Chinese made a significant portion of the list of externalised released by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. However, the Minister argued that targetting the Chinese would be xenophobic as everyone else was doing it. Said Mukupe,

I think, let us not start saying it is a Chinese issue, it is not a Chinese issue. There are equally Indians, who are doing that, there are equally Makaranga, who are doing that, there are equally Ndebeles, who are doing that. It is a nationwide pandemic, so, then to start targeting a certain section of the population to say ‘these people’ that is now xenophobic as far as I am concerned.

This comes a few days after the Chinese Embassy dismissed the list saying that it was not credible.
