UZ Boss To Remain In Office Despite Being Arrested Over Grace Mugabe PhD

Answering questions in Senate on Thursday during a Question and Answer session, Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira said University of Zimbabwe (UZ) vice chancellor Professor Levi Nyagura will remain in office unless he is suspended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Murwira was responding to a question from Bulawayo Metropolitan Senator Spiwe Ncube (MDC-T) who had asked the minister to clarify different newspaper reports where some said Nyagura had been suspended by the UZ Council while others said he was reporting for work. Said Murwira:

Honourable Senator, you are reading from the newspapers, which is okay. With all due respect, I would say a correct position that we know is that the Chancellor, who is the President, is the appointing authority of a Vice Chancellor. I am not even the appointing authority myself. What we know is that I have never seen a letter on my desk which says the Chancellor has suspended a Vice Chancellor.
