Mugabe's New Project, The New Patriotic Front (NPF) Writes To ZEC , Wants To Attend Meetings For Political Parties
Former president Robert Mugabe’s alleged project and new political party, the New Patriotic Front (NPF) has written to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) asking to participate in all meetings for political parties. The NPF is led by retired brigadier general Ambrose Mutinhiri who quit Zanu-PF citing the unconstitutional removal of Mugabe in a military coup in November 2017. Mugabe has come under attack from state media and Zanu-PF for endorsing the project, with Zanu-PF youths and war veterans warning that he should be prepared to face the consequences of his actions.
However, there seems to be confusion within the new party about the actual name of the organisation as in the letter to ZEC and the most recent statement they refer to themselves as the National Patriotic Front, yet in earlier communications, they called themselves the New Patriotic Front.
Part of the letter to ZEC reads,
This is to notify you that we the National Patriotic Front (NPF) are a political party duly established by a constitution adopted by the founders of the Party on 7th December 2017 in accordance with the laws of Zimbabwe.
