Govt To Meet With Matabeleland Chiefs After Blocking Coronation of New Ndebele King, Lobengula II

The government through, the Ministry of Local Government, will be meeting with traditional chiefs from the Matabeleland region. Minister of Local Government July Moyo will be meeting with the chiefs on Friday. This comes after the government blocked the coronation of Crowne Prince Buelelani Lobengula to the throne of King Lobengula. The coronation which was supposed to t6ake place on Saturday was declared unconstitutional By Minister Moyo.

Part of a letter from the Ministry reads:

RE: INTENDED INSTALLATION OF CROWN PRINCE TO THRONE OF KING LOBENGULA: 3RD MARCH 2018

Please be advised that the above-intended occasion has been declared unconstitutional and therefore cancelled.

However, the Ministers of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing and Minister of Home Affairs have called for a meeting of all Chiefs from Mat. South and Mat. North on 2nd of March 2018 at 1000 hours at P A Bulawayo Metropolitan Boardroom.

Kindly invite the Chiefs and prepare the venue.

  1. Imagine that the descendants of Mutapa would also want to revive their kingship- what will become of the Lobengula kingship. Such an arrangement is crazy.
