Mnangagwa Appoints Chairperson of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Retired Justice Selo Masole Nare as the Chairperson of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC). The appointment is with immediate effect. According to Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda the appointment of Retired Justice Nare was made after wide consultations and as per the provisions of Section 251 (1) (a) of the constitution of Zimbabwe.

Until the appointment, the NPRC has been functioning without a chairperson after the death of the previous chairperson Cyril Ndebele in 2016. Lilian Chigwedere, the deputy chairperson, was in charge. The NPRC is the body tasked with looking into the Gukurahundi Massacres among other issues.
