Full Statement: Zimsec Nullifies 2017 O’ Level English, Orders Rewrite For All Students

MINISTRY OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION

Press Statement by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Professor Paul Mavima on the re-sitting of the November 2017 Ordinary Level English Language Pape 2

I would like to advise the nation that the November 2017 Ordinary Level English language Paper 2 examination retaken on Friday 16 February 2018 from 1000 hours to 1200 hours. All results for the November 2017 English Language Paper 2 have been nullified.

This follows the widespread cheating in this paper, exacerbated by the social media, and identified during the November 2017 examination session. It was reported in the press during the examination and subsequently validated during the marking of candidate scripts. I regret the inconvenience and general stakeholder disaffection that this decision will cause. I would want to emphasise that this drastic decision has been arrived at after painstaking and agonising consideration. In the final analysis, the decision has been necessitated by the need to maintain and preserve the integrity of the National Examination System.

It is regrettable that some innocent candidates will be inconvenienced by this remedial action but the circumstances of the cheating left no other alternative.

In this regard, all Candidates who sat for the November 2017 Examination are therefore required to report to their 2017 Examination Centres in order to write the Examination which begins at 10.00 hours on FRIDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2018. Candidates who have been informed of the cancellation of results because of cheating during the Examinations in

a. all subjects
b. English Language only

SHOULD not re-write this English Language Paper 2 and this includes those who were prosecuted and sentenced.

  1. This is a drastic action. Surely how bad or wide spread was the cheating? Unfortunately we do not have much information to comment on this. However one might find that only less than 1% benefited from the loot yest so many students are being punished! What a shame. Has there been any one prosecuted?

Can we contrast this to Dr Amai’s dotorial Exams? And no actions taken! How sad! All Animals are equal hence the nullyfing of the exams, but others are more equal and hence the not nullifying of Dr Amai’s Certificate. This worls is so unfair

  2. …and of course no one is held accountable for this debacle. We as parents are supposed to silently take our children back to their examination centres. Nxaaa. I advocate for the return to the Cambridge exams. Zimsec is a perennial failure

    1. It’s like because cde Dr Amai fraudulently obtained her doctorate then every one in her “stream” shud have theirs anannulled. Punish the guilty only. This is crap.

  6. I think the decision is ryt,,guys if this cheating continues our education system will lose value out side there,,this is for our own gud as the students of Zim

  7. This is grossilly unfair, yes no additional exam fees needed,bt have u also considered that some students are out of the country, how much of unplanned money are the parents gonna spend,This is a rushed decision and shows lack of leadership bcz this should have been done last year nt when parents are waiting for results

  8. I do understand that the Gvt is full of proffesioned people holding all of the proffesioned certificates but here…….,,,,,,,,,,,. Your proffesion ddnt work at all. Where were you all along after writting. Who tels you today. Sorry …. But let your decision fulfilled, bu its painfull

  11. This game of leaking exam papers has become the norm with the Zim sec department.Year in and year out its the same old story that has no permanent solution. I think its very unfair for a re-sit of the exam, what about the maths paper that also leaked. You need a re_think minister instead of a re-sit.

  12. can the government provide transport to all the centers because me as a parent dont have money to meet the costs caused by a stupid somebody who wants to be paid to re print the papers

  13. Hey Zimbabwe soo cambridge inouya by air transport but hatimbonzwi kuti ya leeker but zimsec rinosara roitwa print out ra leeker kare
