Khupe Faces Expulsion From MDC-T After Boycotting Meeting
MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe faces a potential expulsion from the opposition party after she missed another National Standing Committee (NSC) meeting which was chaired by acting president Elias Mudzuri on Wednesday. However, unlike the last time she boycotted the NSC meeting, this time she did not attend Parliament. Khupe together with her allies is not happy that the MDC-T entered into a coalition agreement to form the MDC Alliance.
With party president Morgan Tsvangirai battling colon cancer and considering stepping down as party leader, the MDC-T is on a knife edge as Khupe, Mudzuri and Nelson Chamisa are all looking at succeeding Tsvangirai. Some party members had threated to expel Khupe if she did not attend the meeting.
Responding to questions that Khupe had been given an ultimatum, Mudzuri told NewsDay
We don’t want to continue in the public domain with issues like these. There are internal processes that will be followed and if ultimatums were given, they are not for the public domain.
MDC-T Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora said that Tsvangirai would deal with the issues once he returned if Mudzuri failed to do so:

I think it’s a matter of public record really that VP Khuphe does have issues that she is not happy about and these are the issues that we as a leadership are dealing with and I am happy that VP Mudzuri is going to engage her on the issues of her concern.
If the acting President Mudzuri does not succeed, then President Tsvangirai will have to deal with the issues.
