POTRAZ To Build 250 Base Stations In 2018

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) says that it is planning to build 250 base stations in 2018 using proceeds from the Universal Services Fund (USF).

Potraz manager in charge of the USF Hasha Myambo told The Source on Wednesday that only 25 base stations had been built in 2017. He said the cost of a base station differs because of its location. Said Myambo:

The cost of the base station differs because of locations, some are located in hills or steep areas. On average a single base station costs about $400 00 to $500 000. For this year we are looking at constructing about 250 base stations and that will depend on how soon we get the required finances.

As of September 2017, Zimbabwe had 8 278 base stations.
