Mnangagwa Wants United Nations, Commonwealth And EU To Monitor Elections

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has revealed that he would want the United Nations, European Union and the Commonwealth to come and observe the harmonised elections due to be held later this year.

Mnangagwa’s predecessor, Robert Mugabe Mugabe did not want potentially critical observers to observe elections. In an interview with Financial Times Mnangagwa said:

With this new dispensation I don’t feel threatened by anything. I would want that the United Nations should come, the EU should come. If the Commonwealth were requesting to come, I am disposed to consider their application.

Mnangagwa also indicated that Zimbabwe would rejoin the Commonwealth from where the country was suspended 16 years ago.
