Four People Dead From Cholera In Chegutu

Four people have died so far from a cholera outbreak which has affected the town of Chegutu. Three other people have been admitted at the hospital. Three of the deceased are believed to have contracted the disease after they attended the funeral of the other victim, an elderly woman.

Mashonaland West Provincial Medical Director Dr Wenceslaus Nyamayaro told state media:

Yes, there is an outbreak in Chegutu and we are doing everything to ensure that the situation is dealt with once and for all.

Cholera is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae. The cholera outbreak has been blamed on poor hygiene caused by inadequate water supplies.
