Mnangagwa Heads To Switzerland For World Economic Forum

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to travel to Switzerland where he will attend the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s 48th Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters which will take place on 23-26 January 2018. The meeting will run under the theme, Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World. and will focus on finding ways to reaffirm international cooperation on crucial shared interests, such as international security, the environment and the global economy.

This year’s opening address will be delivered by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India. Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, will deliver a keynote address before the close of the meeting. African leaders that will attend the meeting are Cyril Ramaphosa, Deputy President of South Africa, Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and Hailemariam Dessalegn who is the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

This will be the first major global economic conference that Mnangagwa will attend as President. His predecessor, former President Robert Mugabe, never made it to the annual summit, although he attended a regional WEF meeting in Durban last year. Attendance is strictly by invitation.
