Mnangagwa Withdraws Grace Mugabe’s Bodyguards

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has reportedly withdrawn former First Lady Grace Mugabe’s State security detail with sources telling NewsDay that the head of her security team police commissioner, Olga Bungu, is now operating from the “commissioner’s pool” at the Police General Headquarters in Harare.

When contacted for comment by NewsDay, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba declined to comment and referred the publication to the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) director-general, Isaac Moyo, and the Police Protection Unit in charge of Mugabe’s security. Said Charamba:

The CIO and police would give you a correct position on the matter. But, logically, I believe it would be expensive for the government to provide security to Chatunga [Mugabe’s youngest child] now whenever he travels to America or decides to relocate there. I think the idea is that security details and other benefits are accrued to the principal [Mugabe]. Other members now enjoy through the principal and not by virtue of their position or association.

University of Zimbabwe lecturer and constitutional lawyer, Lovemore Madhuku, said, at law, First Ladies do not have separate security, but benefit from the team that is assigned to their spouses.

  1. she was former first lady but now she is ordinery Zimbabwean so there is no reaso for her to get security, she must benefit from her husband,so there is no way now she can get security ,its wasting of money

  2. grace will die of lack of attention, i think the old man is now hallucinating he thought he was a king in his last days as a ruler an antic which needs to be preserved in prison

  3. We have many former presedents in Africa who are not having security provided by police or interligence units. A typical one is the former President Mugabe’s counter par the former Zambian presedent Dr Kenneth Kaunda. Him and his late wife have never been guarded by such. He visits Zimbabwe quite often as free as he is. The problem with Zimbabwe though is that Dr Amai’s issue is not a security issue but a psycological one. Zimbabwe is a peaceful country like Zimbia, unfortunately because the Doctor made so many enemies in Zimbabwe, she therefore has a psycological fear. She thinks that if she were to bump on some of those enemies, fire-works may follow. Remember what she did to a South African girl she found with her son. Dr Amai therefore thinks that people may react in exactly manner she did. Dr Stop-it created such enemies as having dated some husbands’s from top families and we cannot guarantee that if she were to meet such woman, they may not react in the same manner that she acted in SA.

However there is no need for security being provided to her nd in my opinion not even to the former presedent. Its just a worst of money and lack of priorities.
