15 Die In 13 Road Accidents On Unity Day

In a statement to ZBC News, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said that 15 people died in 13 road accidents recorded on 22 December which is Unity Day.

He said that 9 of the accidents were caused by speeding while 4 were as a result of lack of attention and judgement. Chief Superintendent Nyathi told ZBC News that two pedestrians were knocked down at the 132 kilometre peg along the Harare-Mukumbura road while another one died on the spot near Fairbridge, Bulawayo as they tried to cross the road.

He also said one person died in an accident that occurred at the 258 kilometre peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway at around 0230 hours after one of the drivers encroached into the lane of oncoming traffic.

Holidays are fatal especial when roads are wet areas like Gwanda -Beit-Bridge from 20Km peg on Machiebinding before Esigodini all that stretch the tarmac is very smooth at Chipangali there a also sharp corners at Dain s Pool such that need reduce the speed otherwise you lose control so most people die also stray donkeys and cattle
