Vice Presidents to be appointed after Zanu-PF’s Extraordinary Congress

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vice Presidents will be appointed after Zanu-PF’s Extraordinary Congress to be held later this month.

When contacted for comment by the Sunday Mail, Zanu-PF spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said that the appointments are Mnangagwa’s prerogative. Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda also indicated that the Vice Presidents will be appointed after congress when announcing adjustments to the new Cabinet yesterday. Said Sibanda:

His Excellency, the President, has appointed the following as Special Advisors to him and his Office pending outcomes of the December Congress of the ruling Zanu-PF party: Professor Clever Nyathi as Special Advisor in the Office of the President on National Peace and Reconciliation, which is expected to be headed by a Vice-President to be appointed after Congress.

According to Section 40 of Zanu-PF’s constitution, the President and First Secretary of the party is entitled to appoint his/her two deputies.
