Mnangagwa Urged Not To Appoint "Well Known Thieves and Thugs" As Ministers
Labour organisation, the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called on President-Designate Emmerson Mnangagwa to appoint his cabinet based on merit and not loyalty or patronage. The ZCTU further urged Mnangagwa not to limit his scope when searching for new ministers saying he should look for talent beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. Mnangagwa was urged avoid recycling the same old faces and ” well-known thieves and thugs.”
In a statement, ZCTU Secretary General, Japhet Moyo said:
Some of these people have a sordid past and are well-known thieves and thugs. There is need to cultivate a new culture where people are appointed to public offices based on performance rather than loyalty to leaders. Zimbabwe has abundant talent and the new administration must cast its net wide, even beyond borders.
FeedbackZimbabweans must be given an opportunity to elect leaders of their choice. The country can only move forward through instilling a new sense of belonging to all citizens based on the principle of collectivism.
Mnangagwa is set to be appointed as the country’s President on Friday after former President Robert Mugabe, resigned on Tuesday.
