Mnangagwa back in Zim: Acie Lumumba

In a video update politician and Viva Zimbabwe leader Acie Lumumba said that former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is in Zimbabwe. He said that Mnangagwa will be giving a speech soon as the new President of Zimbabwe.

Mnangagwa was fired from Government by President Robert Mugabe on 6 November 2017. Mugabe dismissed Mnangagwa in terms of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Number 20 Act of 2013, Section 329, 6′ Schedule, Paragraph 14, Sub-paragraph (2)Making the announcement Simon Khaya Moyo said:

It had become evident that his conduct in the discharge of his duties had become inconsistent with his official responsibilities. The Vice President has consistently and persistently exhibited traits of disloyalty, disrespect, deceitfulness and unreliability. He has also demonstrated little probity in the execution of his duties.

The decision to fire Mnangagwa came after Bulawayo, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Masvingo and Mashonaland West Provinces had recommended his expulsion and the elevation of Women’s league national chairperson Grace Mugabe as his replacement. Zanu-PF Youth League had also recommended Mnangagwa’s expulsion and the elevation of Grace as his successor.

Mnangagwa hit back telling Mugabe that Zanu-PF was not his personal property. He hinted that he would be back to rule Zimbabwe. Said Mnangagwa:

As I leave this post (VP) for now, I encourage all loyal members of the party to remain in the party, to register to vote, as we will, very soon, control the levers of power in our beautiful party and country. Let not your hearts be troubled for peace, love, unity, development and prosperity are around the corner. I will be communicating with you soon and shall return to Zimbabwe to lead you.

There have been rumours of a transitional Government which will rope in opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai. It remains to be seen what will take place considering that the Zimbabwe Defence Forces still recognises President Robert Mugabe as the Commander in Chief and that they have denied that they are staging a coup.
