Earlier on today the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces General Constantino Chiwenga warned President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party that the military will not hesitate to intervene in the country’s leadership in order to protect the liberation. This follows the expulsion and subsequent flight to the exile of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Here is how Zimbabweans reacted to the general’s statement:
Spare a thought for Bob; he's now caught in a place far worse than between a rock & a hard place. He's between an army threat and a vacuous but ambitious & vicious wife

He was eyeing the vice presidency, so ED sacking sets him back

The statement allegedly issued by General Chiwenga today poses a serious problem for Mugabe – if true it in essence demands a reversal of the actions Mugabe has put in motion this week. That will entail an unprecedented loss of face and real power.

If @ProfJNMoyo and other G40s come here preaching that the army must not interfere in politics, they'll be be right.
But it must not be forgotten the they cheered when the same military declared it would not accept Tsvangirai as president in 2002. They were warned.— Zim Media Review (@ZimMediaReview) November 13, 2017
Why is the commander of the defence forces concerning himself with the affairs of a political party? It’s no business of the country’s defence forces who is and who isn’t expelled from Zanu PF. If Chiwenga wants to be involved, then he must get out of uniform. Simples!

Worried by the length and quality of the press statements we're seeing in this country, from all parties/factions
I shall soon be releasing a statement on this pertinent matter of national concern…and offering my services, for a small fee.— Ranga.🇿🇼 (@RangaMberi) November 13, 2017
Whilst i believe in constitutional democracy,me believe Chiwenga is 200% correct , this is a shared sentiment among the majority Zimboz. G40 MUST BE STOPPED FORTHWITH. @ProfJNMoyo @Hon_Kasukuwere We seem heading for a crisis because of a few reckless cabal. https://t.co/E9tuKtEYSd

I don't think so blaz. Vana mkoma are telling Bob to stop the G40 nonsense and fire Jonso right away or else "the army will not hesitate to step in" He made it expressly clear

Not excited with that statement – Army must stay away from politics even though Zanu created this confusion we must not be excited about such a development!

Why is a soldier commenting on business of political party? Soldiers out of politics.

I wonder how Mugabe will respond to Chiwenga’s statement, but whatever happens, we are in unchartered territory
— Nqaba Matshazi (@nqabamatshazi) November 13, 2017
This does not read like a statement from a NATIONAL army it sounds more like a statement from the armed wing of Zanu pf in which Zanu pf and the state means the same thing with the state being lesser than the party

MaZimba… when foreign coaches Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger mispronounce English hanzi its sexy… Generari Chiwenga breaks the Queen's language, we all fall laughing. Inferiority complex.
