'NGOs will not be allowed to observe 2018 elections': Mugabe

Speaking to Chinese media in Harare last week, President Robert Mugabe vowed that non governmental organisations funded by Western nations will not observe next year’s elections.

Mugabe indicated diplomats from Western countries would be allowed to observe elections. Said Mugabe:

We don’t need them. We are saying no. We are going to have elections in 2018 and we are going to say no to the whites …They want to work with opposition parties all the time. In other words, they don’t have that impartiality of mind and judgment. We don’t mind their diplomats participating but the NGOs, no. We don’t want them at all.

The MDC-T said Mugabe’s decision to assume the role of referee, linesman and match commissioner was likely to affect the credibility of the upcoming elections.
