Typhoid outbreak hits Mbare

Harare City Council spokesperson Michael Chideme confirmed that there have been suspected cases of typhoid in Mbare’s Matapi flats. Chideme said that the council’s medical team is on the ground attending to the suspected cases.

He referred NewsDay to council’s health services director Prosper Chonzi, who was not immediately available for comment. The outbreak has been blamed on water shortages, raw sewer spillages and uncollected garbage. At least six people are reported to have succumbed to typhoid and other related diseases since last year in Harare from some 83 cases recorded.
