Zimbabwean now a jihadist sniper for the Islamic State

Raymond Matimba a British Zimbabwean is reported to have become one of the leading snipers for jihadist group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). According to a report in the British publication, the Guardian, Matimba who adopted the nom de guerre Abu Qaqa al-Britani al-Afro, fled from Manchester in 2014 and went to Syria. There he quickly rose in rank and became a key member of a group which included notorious Islamic State extremist Mohammed Emwazi, the executioner also known as Jihadi John. He also had close links to the Manchester suicide bomber Salman Abedi.

Another newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, published a video from 2014, in which Matimba called for a terror attack on his former home city of Manchester. The source who recorded the video said:

He said [to the group] that he hated his city [Manchester], that he wanted it to be bombed.

Matimba was reported to have been bombed this year, however, his mother Moncia, is yet to receive any official confirmation, leading to speculation that he is still alive.
