Mutsvangwa files urgent application to stop congress to elect new war veterans leadership

Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) chairperson Christopher Mutsvangwa filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court early this week seeking an interdict order to stop Zanu-PF from holding an elective congress to choose new leadership.

In the application Mutsvangwa argues that selection to be a war veterans’ leader is nonpartisan. Said Mutsvangwa:

Eligibility for leadership is not based on political affiliation of a member, but is open to any member of the applicant. In recent times, applicant has been subjected to undue political influence and manipulation in its activities and administration by Zanu PF. In the process, applicant has been made to appear as if it were an extension of Zanu PF and an exclusive domain of Zanu PF members.

Meanwhile, Zanu-PF elected Patrick Nyaruwata to be the chairman of a national executive committee that will lead the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) to new elections.
