A Harare court heard that a rape victim was allegedly turned away the first time she tried to file a police report, when the police officers told her that they did not work on Sundays and that the camp was closed. The victims alleges that she was raped by her employer Lieutenant-Colonel Rangarirai Kembo. The girl’s aunt (name withheld) revealed this in court and claimed that the police were trying to protect Kembo.
The aunt told the court
She told me what the accused did to her and my first advice was for her to confide with someone in the camp in which they resided but she said she was afraid since she was ordered not to.
She further told me that she attempted to report the abuse on a Sunday but the police refused to listen to her claims saying they were closed.
However, Kembo’s lawyer claimed that the aunt was lying as the alleged victim had continued staying with her alleged rapist. He added that his client was being framed by his enemies with the help of the alleged victim.
