National Heroes Acre not for the “Tsvangirais”: Mugabe

Addressing people who thronged the National Heroes Acre for Heroes Day celebrations this afternoon, President Robert Mugabe said that the national shrine is not for people like MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Said Mugabe:

Nyika yakauya neropa… The Tsvangirais should know that. The Heroes Acre is for those who paid the supreme sacrifice. If we are to bury the likes of Tsvangirai here…tinoti vakaitei chingaita kuti varadzikwe pano…..iko kuvamba MDC ndiko kounza munhu pano? Hongu panyaya yekuwana ivhu nderedu tose, vakatengesa nevasina kutengesa, vakaenda kuhondo nevasina vanekodzero yekuwana ivhu. (The country came through bloodshed. The Tsvangirais know that. The Heroes Acre is for those who paid the supreme sacrifice. If we bury the likes of Tsvangirai what have they done to deserve to be buried here? Is forming MDC enough for them to be buried here? Yes the land is for everyone, the sellouts and those who did not sell out, those who went to war and those who didn’t.)

His comments come at a time when former Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZPRA) combatants have claimed that over 20 000 of their colleagues were denied war veteran status during the vetting process.
