Zimra officials helping people to smuggle banned products, Govt to raid shops selling such products
The Herald reports that Government will soon raid shops selling products that were banned under Statutory Instrument 64 of 2016.
In an interview with The Herald, Industry and Commerce Minister Mike Bimha said that Governement had to come up with measures to counteract the smuggling that was happening at the country’s borders with the aid of Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) officials. Said Bimha:
It is an issue of process as well. You find that some of the smuggling happens with assistance of officials at border posts because they now understand how it all works since some of them have been in the system all their working life. There is need to put parallel (t0 SI64) and effective measures. (We) need to find other measures to control the smuggling.
