My father was a top civil servant and not a Zanu PF activist in any way: Fadzayi Mahere

Activist and 2018 candidate for Mount Pleasant, Fadzayi Mahere has dismissed allegations that she is a Zanu PF plant. Mahere has also said that her family was not involved in Zanu PF politics. Some sections of the media have reported that Mahere’s father was a senior member of Zanu-PF.  Fadzayi, however, says her father was a top civil servant.

In an interview with NewsDay, Mahere said:

That has to be expected because once you join politics people are bound to begin to ask the tough questions. I take this not in the negative sense, but part of society’s role to interrogate their political leader and know more about them rather than patronising, and we encourage such engagement. I have provided answers and in short I am not Zanu PF. I am standing as an independent in Mt Pleasant constituency.

I do not come from a political family. Neither of my parents has ever been in any of Zanu PF’s organs or taken part in politics. But my father was a civil servant working his way from being a teacher to being permanent secretary in the Education ministry before he retired in 2013.

My father was a top civil servant and not a Zanu PF activist in any way, shape or form. I think that difference is important to make.

  1. But your mother was a ZANU pf senator in 2005 then lost election as an mp in 2008. and your grandfather nyagumbo was zanu

  2. An aspirant for promotion to high office in the civil service has to be demonstrably ZANU PF to have any chance of getting it. This also applies to parastatals and local authorities. The fact that VaMahere rose from a mere teacher to Perm Sec. is a clear indication of he above assertion, his managerial acumen notwithstanding.
