Police Deputy Commissioner in court for raping niece

Yesterday, Zimbabwe Republic Police Deputy Commissioner (operations) Cosmas Mushore (49) was asked not to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Josephine Sande facing allegations of raping his 17-year-old niece at Chikurubi senior officers’ staff quarters. He was remanded in custody to August 17 and advised to approach the High Court for bail.

The court heard that on 28 July this year, Mushore returned from work and found the complainant preparing to go to school. He allegedly summoned the complainant to his bedroom but she did not comply. She decided to go into the spare bedroom where she allegedly set her mobile phone to video-record the incident.

Mushore allegedly followed her into the spare bedroom and dragged her into his bedroom where he raped her once before leaving for work. The complainant allegedly took a bath and went to school, where she narrated her ordeal to the school authorities, who then escorted her to ZRP Mabvuku to make a report. Medical examinations confirmed the alleged sexual abuse, which corroborated the video recording, which has been kept as an exhibit.
