Former Ziscosteel workers get 40% of one month's salary after 8 years with no pay

Union leaders representing former workers at the now defunct Zimbabwe Iron and Stee Company (Ziscosteel) have revealed that workers have received less than half of a month’s salary after going 8 years without pay. The company owes the workers more than $60 million in unpaid salaries dating back to eight years. The company released $400 000 for salaries which is just enough to pay 37.5 percent of a single month’s wages.

Ziscosteel joint workers chairman Benedict Moyo:

The company has availed $400 000 to the workers of ZISCO group of companies. The amount translates to 37, 5% of an individual salary.

The money which has been released by the company has nothing to do with the attachment of the company properties.

…The workers representatives are currently meeting with Industry Minister over the workers outstanding issues.
