Armed robbers get away with $35 000 in Bulawayo, Harare families raid

Speaking to The Herald, Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said armed robbers got away with $35 000 and 1 500 Yuan when they raided families in Bulawayo and Harare last Monday night respectively.

In Bulawayo three of the armed robbers posed as police officers while the fourth was in handcuffs. Charamba said that the robbers accused the complainants of buying stolen doors from a local shop in Bulawayo and demanded to verify if the purchase was genuine. They handcuffed the first complainant while the second complainant had her hands tied and face covered with bandages. The robbers force opened a trunk and stole $31 000 cash, three cellphones, cutlery and two laptops all valued at $2 200.

In the second incident a foreign national arrived at his house in Marlborough at around 8.40pm last Monday and was confronted by armed robbers inside his house and were wearing masks. One of the suspects pointed a gun and ordered the man to lie down while the other robber searched him and took his pistol from his waist and $50 from the pockets. They took $4 000 cash and 1 500 Chinese Yuan from the gun cabinet before leaving.
