UZ student leaders arrested by ZRP over fees protest, still to appear in court

On Tuesday, members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police arrested three University of Zimbabwe Student Representative Council (SRC) leaders following the protests which took place on Monday. Medical students from the university’s College of Health Sciences were protesting against an increase in fees. The three arrested leaders are:

SRC Treasurer – Ignatius Mukuchi
SRC President – Steven Tsikirai
SRC Secretary for Sports – Kudakwashe Guta.

The three were detained at Harare Central Police Station and yet to appear in court. The trio us facing charges of disorderly conduct and public violence. The students are being represented by Bellinda Chinowawa, Kuzivakwashe Ngodza and Noble Chinhano of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)
