27 June should be a national holiday to commemorate victims of 2008: MDC-T MP

On Tuesday, Chitungwiza North MP Godfrey Sithole moved a motion calling on the government to declare 27 June a national holiday as a way to commemorate the victims of political violence in 2008. It is reported that hundreds of people were killed or maimed in the run-up to the presidential run-off election on 27 June in 2008. Said, Sithole:

My point of order is on a different issue which is of national importance and I was requesting that maybe this august House takes note and acknowledges what has happened in the past.

Since today is 27th June, maybe as Parliament we can propose that this day becomes a national holiday in commemoration of the atrocities and genocide in slow motion which happened in 2008 when we lost more than 200 members.

The matter was seconded by fellow MDC-T legislator, Glen View North MP Fani Munengami. However, temporary speaker Melody Dziva dismissed the motion saying there was no point to order.
