Testifying in court yesterday, Superintendent Nyambo Viera denied claims by Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) deputy director Kizito Gweshe’s claim that the police is protecting corrupt senior officers. Vera also denied Gweshe’s involvement in the investigating team set up to look into corruption in the CIO and ZRP after a CIO informer, Delish Nguwaya supplied information on alleged corruption.
However Vera said they also had incriminating evidence against Nguwaya who is jointly charged with Zano Vengayi (33), Clever Gadzikwa (36) and Mbereki Mbizo Nyathi, of extorting about $20 000 from Baoning Guo, a Chinese national. In his testimony yesterday, Viera said when they called Nguwaya for an interview, the information he supplied was not helpful as he implicated Chief Superintendent Majachani, a Superintendent Tachiona and Asst deputy directors Mangwanya and Tachiveyi who were investigated and cleared of any wrong doing. The case continues on June 21.
